How to Synchronise Pricing and Discounts with Shopify for Business Central

Integrating Shopify with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central allows businesses to streamline their e-commerce and financial operations. A key feature in the latest release of the Shopify Connector is the ability to synchronise individual prices and discounts between Shopify and Business Central. This gives businesses greater flexibility and control over their pricing models, especially for B2B customers.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through the process of synchronising pricing and discounts with Shopify for Business Central, offering increased personalisation and efficiency in managing your product catalog.

Business Value of Synchronise Pricing and Discounts with Shopify for Business Central

Synchronising pricing and discounts across both platforms helps businesses achieve the following:

  • Flexibility in Pricing: Individual prices and discounts enable more personalization for B2B customers, ensuring that each client receives the appropriate pricing for their needs.
  • Consistency Across Platforms: Automatically sync pricing updates in both Shopify and Business Central, reducing errors and maintaining consistency across systems.
  • Improved Operational Efficiency: Automated synchronization of pricing and discounts eliminates the need for manual updates, saving time and reducing administrative effort.

Feature Details: How to Sync Pricing and Discounts

The latest update of the Shopify connector enhances your ability to manage individual prices and discounts for products in Shopify, linked to B2B customers. Here’s how you can set it up:

  • Sync Shopify Catalogs – To begin synchronizing catalog prices from Shopify, follow these steps:
  • Access Shopify Catalogs – Select the Tell Me icon in Business Central, type “Shopify Catalogs,” and select the related link.
    • Retrieve Shopify Catalogs – Click on Get Catalogs to import the catalog data from Shopify.
    • Choose the Entry to Sync – Select the catalog entry for which you wish to define and export prices. Fill in the required fields accordingly.
  • Select Your Pricing Strategy – There are two primary strategies for synchronizing prices with Shopify, depending on your business needs:

  • Default Strategy:

This strategy uses settings similar to those for syncing the Price and Compare at Price fields for Shopify products (Shopify variant). The following fields are used for this synchronization:

  • Customer Price Group: This field determines the price for an item in Shopify. If a Customer Price Group is specified, the sales price for that group will be used. If not, the price on the item card will be used instead.
  • Customer Discount Group: Determines the discount applied to an item in Shopify. Discounted prices are stored in the Price field, while the full price is stored in the Compare at Price field.
  • Allow Line Disc.: This field specifies whether line-level discounts are allowed when calculating prices. It applies only to item prices and allows flexibility for different discount strategies.
  • Prices Including VAT: This option determines whether price calculations include VAT for Shopify orders.
  • VAT Business Posting Group: This field specifies the VAT business posting group used to calculate prices for Shopify customers, especially for domestic transactions.

  • Customer-Specific Strategy (New)

This strategy uses the Customer No. field to calculate prices. When this strategy is selected, the connector ignores other pricing values from the Shopify catalog and instead uses the Customer Price Group, Customer Discount Group, and Allow Line Discount fields directly from the customer card in Business Central.

You can easily personalize this by adding the Customer No. field to the Shopify Catalog page in Business Central.

  • Sync Prices

Once you’ve selected your preferred pricing strategy and entered the necessary settings, turn on the Sync Prices toggle. This action will begin the synchronization of catalog prices between Shopify and Business Central, ensuring that both platforms are aligned with the correct pricing information.

Why Synchronize Pricing and Discounts for B2B?

Synchronizing individual pricing and discounts is particularly beneficial for businesses operating in the B2B space. Here’s why:

  • Personalised Pricing for B2B Customers: In a B2B environment, customers often require personalised pricing based on factors such as volume, contracts, or long-term agreements. Synchronizing individual prices and discounts allows businesses to cater to these specific needs without manual updates.
  • Dynamic Discounting: The ability to sync discounts directly to customers ensures that all applicable discounts are accurately reflected in the customer’s order.
  • Improved Customer Experience: By automating pricing synchronization, B2B customers can enjoy a seamless online shopping experience where pricing and discounts are applied automatically based on their account settings.

Best Practices for Synchronizing Pricing and Discounts

To make sure that your Shopify and Business Central systems are synchronized accurately, keep these best practices in mind:

  • Ensure Correct Customer Mapping: It’s crucial that the bill-to customer in Shopify is properly mapped to the correct customer in Business Central. This ensures the correct prices and discounts are applied.
  • Regularly Update Your Catalogs: Make sure your Shopify product catalog is up-to-date with accurate pricing and discount information. This will help ensure that synchronization works smoothly and accurately.
  • Choose the Right Strategy: Select the synchronization strategy that best suits your business needs. The default strategy is great for businesses with a straightforward pricing model, while the customer-specific strategy is ideal for businesses offering custom B2B pricing.

Conclusion – Synchronise Pricing and Discounts with Shopify for Business Central

Synchronising pricing and discounts between Shopify and Business Central helps businesses achieve greater flexibility and accuracy in their e-commerce operations. By enabling personalized pricing and custom discounts for B2B customers, businesses can improve customer satisfaction and increase operational efficiency.

By following the steps outlined above, businesses can easily synchronise their pricing and discount structures across Shopify and Business Central, ensuring consistency and reducing manual work.
